This text file contains color schemes for Windows 3.x that match up 
with the .BMP wallpaper included in this archive.  The color schemes are 
the very long lines in the last section of this document; they start with 
"SchemeName=" and then contain code through the rest of the line.  The code
contains the settings for the color schemes that you will need to cut and 
paste to your CONTROL.INI file (located in your C:\Windows directory.)  If 
you've never made these kinds of changes before, please read the 
instructions carefully first.

To install these color schemes to your desktop, do the following:

1.  Open your CONTROL.INI file from Notepad.  Make sure WordWrap 
is DISABLED; this is very important.  In there, you'll find a section 
labeled: [color schemes]  (usually near the beginning of that file.)

2.  With both this file and your CONTROL.INI file open, highlight the 
full line(s) of the color scheme(s) from COLORHAL.TXT (this file) that you 
wish to add. Each will be a single line, extending well off the screen 
to the right, so make sure you highlight the entire line.

3.  On the Menu bar for COLORHAL.TXT, click on Edit/Copy.

4.  Place your cursor for your CONTROL.INI file to the blank line after
the list of [color schemes]

5.  On the Menu bar of CONTROL.INI, click on Edit/Paste.

6.  Repeat steps 2-5 for each color scheme you want to add individually 
(or you can highlight the entire list all at once if you want to add 
them all in one operation.)

7.  Check again to be sure the lines you've added to CONTROL.INI look
similar to the other lines in [color schemes].  Also check to make sure
there is still a blank line remaining between [color schemes] and the
next section of CONTROL.INI.

8.  When all looks good, click on File/Save, then close CONTROL.INI.

To view the new color schemes:

1.  In File Manager, move all the .BMP items to your C:\Windows directory.

2.  In Program Manager, go to Main and double-click Control Panel.
Then double-click Colors.

3.  Your current color scheme will be shown, and its name is given in
a slot towards the top of this window.  Click the down arrow on this
slot, then scroll through the list to the new color schemes you've
just added.  Selecting any one of them will give you an instant preview
of what it will look like on your screen.  Pick out one that appeals to
you and click on OK.

4.  While still in Control Panel, double-click Desktop.  Set the Pattern
section to *none* (if it isn't already).  Your current wallpaper (if any)
will be labeled in the wallpaper section.  Click the down arrow by this
name-slot, then select the suggested .BMP that partners with the color
scheme you've chosen (the corresponding color schemes and .BMP files have 
matching names.)  Make sure the box next to > Tile < is checked.  Then
click on OK.

5.  Your new color scheme is now in place until you're ready to choose
another.

The items in this archive are freeware.  As such, there is no charge for
their use.  Upload them to your favorite BBS, share them with your Windows 
friends, but please keep the entire archive together when you do so -- in 
other words, share the complete .EXE rather than separating items.

Although I won't prohibit you from altering these items on your own desktop,
please don't alter them in the .EXE archive.

I'd be glad to hear from anyone who enjoys these selections, particularly
if you have ideas for color combinations or "themes" that you'd be
